Course Description
This course has been designed to help professionals understand what Childhood Apraxia of Speech is and how we can differentiate this from other speech sound disorders.
We discuss various options for assessment and a resource has been provided for immediate use. Once a diagnosis or suspected diagnosis has been confirmed, we discuss how to use this information to determine appropriate target words.
We review the Principles of Motor Learning and discuss how we can use these principles to help get more bang for our buck within treatment sessions.
The steps of Dynamic Temporal and Tactile cueing are reviewed in order for appropriate use and fading of prompting so ensure increased motor learning for our students and clients.
The webinar concludes with therapy activity ideas to use within sessions.
Speaker Biography
Christina Bays has been practicing Speech and Language Pathology since 2009. She has always had a passion for speech sound disorders and problem solving during assessments to determine the best treatment approach for her students.
In 2016, she was chosen to manage the Childhood Apraxia of Speech resource center for her school district. Throughout this journey, she has assisted countless Speech and Language Pathologists with their students in support of assessing and treating motor speech disorders. She has attended numerous trainings in the area of motor speech assessment and treatment.
Christina was recently accepted to and completed the intensive boot camp at Apraxia Kids, to receive the title of having advanced training and expertise in the area of CAS.
Christina has a passion for working with students with speech sound disorders, and helping these children to take risks with their speech production, and communicate to the best of their ability.
