Course Description

Speaker Biography

Niki Singh has been working in upper limb and physical rehabilitation for 24 years in Durban, South Africa. Professionally Niki Singh has been past president and regional chair of the South African Society of Hand Therapists. 

She is also a member of the South African Society of Hand Surgeons and presented hand therapy talks with them in the past. Together with a local hand surgeon, Niki cofounded, hosts and administers the KwaZulu-Natal hand webinar group that started during Covid lockdown in 2020, which is now expanding to another region in South Africa to provide talks/journal article or case study discussions for Occupational therapists and hand surgeons. 

Due to her immense passion for promoting upper limb rehabilitation, talks on various topics have also been done for other professional bodies such as the OT/ PT societies in KZN, nursing groups, etc. Niki Singh has also been involved with lecturing to OT undergraduates in KZN, on various topics as per the curriculum.

Accomplishments: The main accomplishments in the field of hand rehabilitation have been 

  • 2006 – Completing her diploma in hand rehabilitation 
  • 2018 to 2020 – Participated in research as a Clinician in a National clinical trial in South Africa for Conexions – FDP Flexor Tendon Device
  • From 2023 to date – Conducting a hand mentorship program in her private practice to help novice therapists gain skill in hand therapy, on a one-to-one platform
  • 2024 – Won the accolade of best Occupational Therapist in the “Best of Durban“ Choice Readers Award
  • Published a scientific article on Mirror Therapy in Stroke patients in the OTASA Focus Journal 2024
